The Old Rectory
Dear Friends
The Parish of St. Matthew for for many years had the honor of having it rector live in the rectory (Church House) which made him readily available for the people and the ministry he was called to perform. Over Five (5) years ago the Rectory became inhabitable and the roof and interior is in a deplorable condition. added to the when the Rectory was built over sixty (60) years ago the Parish Priest was a single man and so in Building it was not taken into consideration that a Parish priest with a family might be appointed to the parish some day.
The Parish Priest was forced to move out of the Rectory because of its condition over five years ago. The condition has only worsened over the period of time. The Priest had to be housed in a rented property away from the church, which made life extremely difficult for the parish, both financially and pastoraly.
I took over the Parish as Parish priest on the 1st September 2007 and since then i am resident in the rented property in witch the former Priest lived We have been struggling to find ways and means to rebuild the Rectory, but we much acknowledge that we are incapable of doing it with out the help of others. The Bishop of the Diocese The Rt. Rev'd C Leopold Friday, sent engineers to look at the Rectory and make Recomendations for its rebuilding. Because of the lack of finance to build a completely new Rectory (estimated cost between $150,000.00 and $175,000.00US) the best option is to try and repair the extreme damage to the existing Rectory and construct an upstairs which will make it capable of housing a Priest with a family. The present estimates for that are between $75,000 to $100,000US .This does not take into consideration the furnishing of the Rectory.
We will like to start this project as early as january 2010, but this will be impossible without your help. We are therefore asking you to please make a donation towards our project. Donations can be sent to St. Matthew's Anglican Church, Biabou, St. Vincent. If you wish to make a donation to the project but will like to do it through a more official source, you can send it to St. Matthew's Anglican Church C/O The Rt. Rev'd C Leopold Friday, Diocesan Bishop, Diocese of The Windward Islands, New Montrose, Kingstown, St. Vincent. Every donation not matter the amount will be greatly appreciated.
Thanking you in advance for your kind consideration and contribution.
Your servant in Christ
The Rev'd Fr. Clive Thomas
