ST. MATTHEW'S ANGLICAN PARISH, BIABOU ST. VINCENT

Serving Christ together as one Family

The St. Matthew's Anglican Church, which was a wooden structure, was first situated at Church Hill in the parish of Charlotte. An exact date for the construction and dedication of the church is not known, however there is record of who was the rector as early as 1845. In 1898, there was a severe hurricane which caused havoc and destruction.

St. Matthew's Church was among seven churches which were completely destroyed in the parish. The church was rebuilt by the Misses Grant of Massey Estate, the records showing date of rededication or rectors who served during that decade are non-existent.

During the tenure of Fr. Frank Wain the church was built on Kata Rock, where it is still present today. The cornerstone for this church was laid on 4th June 1947. The church was dedicated for use on 11th April 1948. The Church was refurbished in 2006 and was Rededicated on Sunday 4th February, 2007 by The Rt. Rev'd C Leopold Friday, Bishop of the Windward Islands.
